Anthropic has closed an $8 billion funding round led by Google and a consortium of sovereign wealth funds, pushing the company's valuation to $60 billion and making it the second-most valuable AI startup in the world behind OpenAI.
The funding reflects Claude's rapid adoption in enterprise markets. Over 1,200 Fortune 500 companies now use Claude through Anthropic's API, up from 300 eighteen months ago. Healthcare systems use Claude for clinical documentation. Law firms use it for contract review. Banks use it for regulatory compliance drafting.
"Enterprise customers chose Claude because it refuses to hallucinate facts in high-stakes documents," said CEO Dario Amodei. "Trust is the product."
Anthropic plans to use the capital to build its next-generation model, expand its US data center footprint, and hire 2,000 additional employees in San Francisco and Seattle.
