Music generation AI systems including Suno, Udio, and several tools embedded in professional digital audio workstations can now produce full-length songs in specified genres, tempos, and styles from text prompts in seconds. The output quality has advanced rapidly to the point where casual listeners frequently cannot distinguish AI-generated tracks from human-produced music.
The recording industry has filed copyright infringement lawsuits against AI music companies alleging that their models were trained on copyrighted recordings without permission or compensation. Musicians are increasingly concerned about the displacement of session musicians, composers, and producers whose work is among the first to face AI substitution. Several unions are negotiating AI usage agreements that would require disclosure and compensation when AI tools substitute for human creative work.
