Apple has unveiled the Vision Pro 2 at $2,499 — half the price of the original — and the upgrades go well beyond cost reduction. The new headset is 40% lighter, lasts six hours on a charge instead of two, and features a breakthrough micro-OLED display that delivers 8K-per-eye resolution in a package the size of ski goggles.
The developer ecosystem has matured dramatically in the year since the original launched. Over 4,000 visionOS apps are now available, including immersive work environments from Microsoft and Google, spatial entertainment experiences from Disney and Netflix, and fitness applications from Peloton that transform any room into a cycling studio.
Apple is targeting two primary use cases: professional productivity and entertainment. Enterprise customers can project unlimited virtual screens in their physical space. Consumers can watch movies in a private 80-foot virtual theater or attend live sports events with spatial cameras making them feel courtside.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo projects Apple will sell 4 million units in the first year — a 10x increase over the original. The product is available for order in all 50 US states beginning Friday.
